Accompanied by a 6¼x10 unsigned program, 5 pages. Program of the International Jazz Festival, Nice (France), February 22-28, 1948. In all 20 signatures! From February 22 to 28, 1948, the world's first ever jazz festival was held in Nice, France. Organized by HUGUES PANASSIE, President of Hot Club de France, the festival demonstrated Europe's recovery from World War II and helped popularize the new bop style of jazz in France. Especially renowned signers here include Belgian-born gypsy Jean Baptise "DJANGO" REINHARDT (1910-1953). Originally a violinist, he is best remembered for his jazz and swing performances on the acoustic guitar (His missing fingers induced him to develop a unique fingering style). In the 1930s, he performed with STEPHANE GRAPPELLI in the Quintet of the Hot Club of France. Although he couldn't read music, Reinhardt created many influential jazz compositions. His style influenced musicians in many genres, from jazz to rock to country music. Reinhardt is rare in any form. French jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli (1908-1997), founder of that historic all-string jazz ensemble at the Hot Club, resumed his internationally famous career...
